Electronic Parking Brake Maintenance
What it does
- Activates and deactivates maintenance (service) mode of the electronic parking brake (EPB)
- Allows safe replacement of rear brake pads and discs
- Protects EPB motors and mechanisms during service
Includes
- Activate maintenance mode
- Deactivate maintenance mode
When it is required
- Before replacing rear brake pads or discs
- During brake system service involving EPB
- After EPB actuator or control unit replacement
Conditions that must be met
- Vehicle stationary on level ground
- Ignition ON
- Stable battery voltage
- Diagnostic tool connected
- Vehicle secured against rolling
What happens during maintenance mode
- EPB motors retract to service position (activation)
- Brake system is unlocked for mechanical work
- After deactivation, EPB motors return to normal operating position
- System performs self-check after deactivation
If maintenance mode is not used
- Risk of EPB motor or mechanism damage
- Brake pads or discs may be installed incorrectly
- EPB fault codes or warning lights may appear
After maintenance
- Deactivate maintenance mode
- Verify correct EPB operation
- Clear any fault codes
- Test parking brake functionality
