Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Calibration
What it does
- Calibrates the steering wheel angle sensor (SWA/Sensor)
- Ensures accurate steering input data for PSM, ABS, and traction control
- Synchronizes sensor with vehicle control units for stability functions
When it is required
- After SWA sensor replacement
- After steering rack or column repairs
- After ABS/PSM control unit replacement
- When fault codes or warning lights appear
Conditions that must be met
- Vehicle stationary
- Steering wheel centered
- Ignition ON
- Stable battery voltage
- Diagnostic tool connected
What happens during calibration
- Sensor zero point is detected and stored
- Control units update steering dynamics algorithms
- Plausibility of sensor signals is verified
If calibration is not performed
- Incorrect stability or traction control intervention
- Fault codes or warning lights may remain
- Reduced handling and vehicle safety
After calibration
- Verify sensor values in live data
- Perform a short test drive
- Confirm correct ABS, PSM, and traction control operation
- Clear fault codes if present
