What it does
- Adapts the torque converter clutch (TCC) behavior in automatic transmissions
- Optimizes torque transfer, shift quality, and fuel efficiency
- Adjusts slip and lock-up characteristics based on ECU learning
When it is required
- After replacing torque converter or transmission
- After transmission control unit replacement
- When shift quality is poor or slipping occurs
- After transmission repairs affecting clutch hydraulics
Conditions that must be met
- Vehicle stationary initially
- Transmission fluid at operating temperature
- Ignition ON, engine running
- Stable battery voltage
- No active critical transmission fault codes
What happens during adaptation
- ECU monitors clutch engagement and slip
- Adjusts torque converter lock-up timing
- Stores adaptation values for:
- Smooth gear changes
- Proper torque transfer
- Fuel efficiency
If adaptation is not performed
- Harsh or delayed shifts
- Excessive torque converter slipping
- Reduced fuel efficiency
- Possible transmission wear or fault codes
After adaptation
- Perform a test drive covering various loads and speeds
- Monitor shift quality and torque converter operation
- Verify no transmission warning lights remain
