Steering Angle Sensor Calibration
What it does
- Calibrates the steering wheel position sensor
- Provides accurate steering angle data to:
- ESC
- ABS
- Lane assist
- Electric power steering
- Ensures correct stability and steering assistance
When it is required
- After wheel alignment
- After steering or suspension repairs
- After replacing the steering angle sensor
- When ESC or EPS warning lights are on
Conditions that must be met
- Steering wheel centered
- Front wheels pointing straight ahead
- Vehicle stationary on level ground
- Ignition ON, engine OFF
- Stable battery voltage
- No active ABS or EPS fault codes
What happens during calibration
- Sensor zero position is stored
- ECU uses the value for:
- Vehicle stability control
- Steering assist calculation
- Lane keeping systems
If calibration is not performed
- ESC or EPS may malfunction
- Lane assist may operate incorrectly
- Warning lights may remain active
- Reduced vehicle stability
After calibration
- Verify steering angle in live data (should be near 0°)
- Perform a short test drive
- Confirm proper ESC and EPS operation
- Ensure warning lights are cleared
