Electronic Parking Brake Calibration
What it does
- Calibrates the electronic parking brake (EPB) system
- Sets correct motor end positions and brake force
- Ensures reliable apply and release operation
When it is required
- After replacing rear brake pads or calipers
- After replacing EPB motors
- After servicing rear brake components
- After EPB control module replacement
Conditions that must be met
- Rear brakes correctly installed
- EPB motors connected and functional
- No active EPB or ABS fault codes
- Stable battery voltage (charger recommended)
- Ignition ON, engine OFF unless instructed otherwise
What happens during calibration
- EPB motors cycle through:
- Full retract
- Full apply
- System learns:
- End stop positions
- Required motor current
- Clamp force reference
- Calibration values are stored in the EPB module
If calibration is not performed
- Uneven or insufficient parking brake force
- Warning messages may appear
- Increased wear on pads and motors
- EPB malfunction risk
After calibration
- Test apply and release function
- Check for fault codes
- Test vehicle holding on a slope
- Confirm normal EPB operation
